Juniper, Juniperus communis, is a shrub with purplish-blue berries and thorny leaves.
It is a small conifer that is often found in the Alps at medium altitude.
Its leaves are bluish and never grow very high.
The berries of this conifer are also bluish and grow in late autumn.
Juniper seeds are brown in color and resemble those of paris herb or intellect tree.
Its berries and young shoots are consumed as an infusion to treat many ailments.
More than a treatment, juniper is consumed for its benefits on the body.
Its fruits have therapeutic properties just like toothache herb or sage.
The best time to sow juniper seeds is from November to February.
It is best to stratify the seeds before germination.
Either naturally by leaving the seeds outside during the winter period, or artificially by putting the seeds in the freezer for at least 4 to 6 weeks.
Then, sow the seeds in a box of acidic pH substrate 2 to 4 millimeters deep.
Water copiously when planting and place the crop in a greenhouse at a temperature of around 20°C.
Juniper germination will usually begin 4 to 6 weeks after sowing.
Aromatic plant seeds to grow in the garden.
