Mandrake called also Mandragora officinarum is the common name for members of the plant genus Mandragora, particularly the species Mandragora officinarum, belonging to the nightshades family or Solanaceae.
Mandrake contains deliriant hallucinogenic tropane alkaloids such as atropine (same of Deadly Nightshade), scopolamine, apoatropine, and hyoscyamine (same of black henbane), and the roots sometimes contain bifurcations causing them to resemble human figures.
These chemicals are anticholinergics, hallucinogens, and hypnotics.
Anticholinergic properties can lead to asphyxiation.
Ingesting mandrake root is likely to have other adverse effects such as vomiting and diarrhea.
Sowing of mandrake seeds:
Begin stratify your mandrake seeds for a few weeks in the refrigerator before planting.
Then, bury your Mandragora officinarum seeds under 0.5 cm of horticultural soil, water with a hand sprayer.
Allow the soil to dry a few days to avoid the rotting of the germ.
Place your mandrake crop under glass at a temperature of 25 to 30 ° C.
Mandrake seeds generally germinate after 2 to 3 weeks.
