Plantain is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Plantaginaceae family.
This variety is native to Europe, and is well known for being one of the first to spread in the colonies.
It is a small grass 20 cm high.
Its flowers are white in summer.
Its seeds must be harvested when fully ripe and are consumed as a food supplement or used in cosmetics.
They are also used as food for birds and more especially for goldfinches in captivity.
Since Antiquity, plantain has had many therapeutic properties, just like pot marigold or black cumin.
Its fresh crushed leaves are used to treat many ailments.
The ideal time to sow plantain seeds is in April.
Prepare a box of fine potting soil, sow them on top without burying them then gently water the crop.
Water gently with a hand sprayer.
Then place the box in a greenhouse at a temperature of at least 25°C.
Its germination will begin 2 to 3 weeks after planting.
Once the plants are 10 cm high, it will be possible to plant them directly in the garden in a sunny location.
Nuts plant in pots or directly in the garden.
