More info

Harlequin Glorybower or Clerodendron trichotomum is a small deciduous tree native to Japan.
It belongs to the Verbenaceae family.

It is a small rustic tree which can reach 7 m in height, its bark is grayish and cracked, its branches are brittle.
This plant naturally takes on a parasol shape.
Its dark green leaves are entire, simple and opposite; if you crush them, they give off an atypical odor resembling thorn apple.

In August, the Clerodendron is covered with numerous, very fragrant flowers grouped in large inflorescences where the white of the petals contrasts with the red of the sepals.

In autumn, the Harlequin Glorybower is again spectacular with its more or less dark blue fruits, the size of a pea, which persist for quite a long time in the red-purple calyx.
Clerodendron seeds are black and round, they are the size of those of the fish berry.
