Birch, silver birch or Betula pendula, is a hardy tree of the Betulaceae family.
It can reach 25 m in height, its growth is rapid.
Its seeds are very small, they resemble those of the Banyan Ficus.
They are mainly spread by the wind.

The sap, leaves and bark of birch have therapeutic properties and are also used in the treatment of certain conditions, like almonds and borage.

In herbalism, this tree has many therapeutic virtues.
The buds or dry bark are used as a decoction and the leaves as an infusion.
In herbal medicine, birch leaf powder is used for its benefits on the body.

The most favorable time to sow birch seeds is from the beginning of March.
Stratify the seeds either naturally outside from March, or artificially by placing them in the freezer in the refrigerator for at least 1 month.
Next, prepare a box of seedling soil and sprinkle the birch seeds on top without covering them.
Gently water the crop then place it in a greenhouse at a temperature of 25°C.

Birch germination will generally begin 2 to 3 weeks after stratification and sowing.
