More info

Plantain banana, also called Musa paradisiaca in Latin, is a species of exotic banana in the Musaceae family.
Its bananas are edible and very tasty.
Unfortunately, it is not hardy like the Darjeeling banana tree.
Its flowers are purple violet.

This tropical fruit can be eaten as a dessert.
It is commonly consumed in much of Africa, the Caribbean, Central America and some South American countries.
There is also a climbing banana, but it is not a Musa but a passion flower, its fruit is also delicious.

The best time to sow plantain banana seeds is from the beginning of June until the end of July when temperatures are warm enough.
Start by lightly scarifying the seed shell with sandpaper until you see the beginning of the white cotyledon.
Be careful not to damage the cotyledon.
Then, let them soak for 12 hours in lukewarm water before cultivating to accelerate germination.

Prepare small pre-moistened peat pots, then plant them 1 cm deep.
Place the banana seed with the small white point down, this is where the roots will come out.
Gently water the crop using a hand sprayer.
Finally, place the culture in a warm, humid place at a temperature of around 35°C.

Its germination can take 3 to 5 weeks after sowing.

  • Grow your own edible bananas.
  • To be grown indoors or in the tropics.
  • Very beautiful exotic variety.
  • Gives a certain tropical look to your home.
  • Reproducible, untreated seeds.

I also offer you a very rustic variety: the Himalayan banana tree, and another the blood banana tree which is much more exotic.
