Sea buckthorn or Hippophae rhamnoides is a wild thorny dioecious shrub of the Elaeagnacaceae family.
It is quite common in Asia.
Its branches are thorny.
It is now found throughout Europe along rivers.
Although very acidic and astringent, is edible.
Its taste is close to passion fruit.
Its fruit is used as a condiment in Nordic countries.
Sea buckthorn seeds are dark brown and cylindrical, a bit like those of joint pine.

Its berries have many benefits for the body.
Its concentration is 5 times higher than that of kiwi and 30 times higher than that of orange.
It is close to that of the goji berry or pineapple.
In Asia, more than 200 food or medicinal products are made from this shrub.

The best time to sow sea buckthorn seeds is from the beginning of March to the beginning of May in order to stratify the seeds naturally.
It is also possible to stratify the seeds artificially by placing them in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 months before cultivating.
Then, sow the seeds in a tray of fine potting soil or in small pots separately using a substrate made from horticultural potting soil and fine sand.
Cover them with a few millimeters of substrate then water delicately with a sprayer.
Finally, place the culture in a warm, humid place at a temperature close to 25°C.

Sea buckthorn germination will generally begin 3 to 5 weeks after stratification and sowing.
