Lactuca virosa or wild opium lettuce is a plant in the Lactuca (lettuce) genus, ingested often for its mild psychotropic (specifically hypnotic or sedative) effects which are often described as being similar to that of opium poppy.
Lactuca virosa often called Wild Lettuce, Bitter lettuce, Opium Lettuce, Poisonous Lettuce.

A latex which is called lactucarium can be derived from the extract of the stem secretions of Lactuca virosa.
Oils and extracts can also be produced from Lactuca virosa.
These oils and extracts have sedative properties. (same of prickly poppy)
Smoking involves either dried leaves or a sticky precipitate extracted from the leaves.
Beverages can be prepared by soaking the leaves in alcohol.

Sowing of Lactuca virosa seeds:

Sow your wild lettuce seeds in a thin, aerated substrate, cover with 1 to 2mm of soil and then water with a sprayer, place it under mini-greenhouse and let your seeds of Lactuca virosa germinate about 2 weeks.
Then place your seedlings of Vichy Lettuce directly in the ground or in a pot of 20 cm in width.
