More info

Monkshood, wolfsbane or Aconitum napellus is a plant of the family Ranunculaceae.
The helmet of Jupiter is a beautiful outdoor plant with blue flowers.
Wolfsbane is extremely toxic, it can easily cause death during accidental consumption.
Its flowers are deep blue, the bloom is spectacular.
Monkshood Seeds are black and long, they resemble that of comfrey or papaya.

Aconitum napellus is certainly one of the most toxic plants of European flora with foxglove (the most toxic in United kingdom).
Wolfsbane is a perennial and very hardy plant that requires little maintenance.
Whole plant is highly poisonous.
The toxic molecules of monkshood are alkaloids.
The main alkaloid is aconitine.

Aconitine contained in the Monkshood causes death by paralysis of various vital systems, it also engenders among other symptoms sweating, mydriasis, salivation to death.
Unfortunately, there is no antidote to date, hence the interest of being extremely suspicious.

Monkshood has long been used in Ayurvedic medicine in case of asthma attack and heart failure.
In the Middle Ages, the Gauls used the juice of wolfsbane to poison the tips of their arrows, just like the strychnine tree in tropical countries.
In homeopathy, Aconitum napellus is used for these analgesic and sedative properties.

Sowing seeds of Monkshood:
Sow the seeds of wolfsbane in a box of fine potting soil, cover the seeds for 1 to 2 millimeters, then leave the box all winter outside, at which time the stratification will take place naturally.
If you ordered the seeds of Aconitum napellus in the spring, do not worry, do the same planting, then place the box in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 weeks.
Be careful, without performing this process, germination of Aconitum napellus is almost zero.
Seedling of monkshood lasts about 3 to 6 weeks, it is relatively long.
Once wolfsbane seedlings are 10 cm, they will need to be planted in a sunny spot.

- Very beautiful blue flowering from September to November.
- Perennial plant, requires no particular maintenance.
- Do not consume Aconite napel, extremely dangerous plant.

European plant seeds to cultivate with care.
