Fireweed, Russian tea or Epilobium augustifolium is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Onagraceae family.
It is a plant native to Europe.
It flowers pink from June to September, then fruit from October to December.
Epilobium is 60 to 1 meter high.
Fireweed seeds are tiny, they resemble those of marjoram or St. John's Wort.

In Kamchatka, Siberians prepare a drink based on Amanite and Fireweed for its exhilarating virtues.
In Russia they use the plant for the manufacture of tea from which comes precisely the name Russian tea.

In traditional medicine, the plant is used as a compress to relieve and treat burns and wounds such as common plantain or gotu kola.
A decoction of fireweed is recommended to limit prostate problems.
Fireweed also contains anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, astringent and calming properties.

Young leaves can be eaten in salad mixed with those of creeping woodsorrel or vietnamese coriander.
