Sichuan pepper tree is native to the Sichuan region of China, it is an exotic tree which offers a highly prized Asian spice. Its thorny silhouette rises up to 4 meters in height when mature, adorned with delicate white flowers in spring which give way to tasty bright red fruits from the end of October.
The leaves and fruits of this tree seduce with their captivating scent, while its berries contain a spice with unique flavors.

The shells of the berries of this spicy pepper tree offer a unique taste experience, causing both a slight tingling and irritating sensation in the mouth, followed by a refreshing lemony note at the end of the tasting.

Formerly used in traditional medicine to relieve toothache, Sichuan pepper is now popular for its stimulating properties on blood circulation, as well as its beneficial action against digestive problems such as bloating and flatulence. Its generous harvest from its third year of growth makes it a valuable resource for lovers of refined spices and fans of natural remedies.

Sichuan pepper tree, plant 7 to 20 cm high, delivered in a plug with a well-developed root system.
Upon receipt, plant it in a 3 to 4 liter pot with good horticultural soil, then pack it well and water it thoroughly.
It is important to drain the bottom of your pot well before planting.
Finally, place the pot in a shaded place for 2 to 3 days to acclimatize it.
Then it will be possible to place it in a sunny area.

It is also possible to plant it directly in the ground in a sunny location.

Its harvest is generally done from mid-October, carefully collect the pods and not the seeds which are unfit for consumption and of no culinary interest.

To separate the pod, leave them to dry in a dry place for 5 to 10 days, stir by hand to separate the two then using an inclined tray roll the seeds, its pods will then remain at the top .
This rare spice keeps in an airtight jar for 2 to 3 years without losing flavor.

  • Rare and very hardy species, easily withstands -20°C.
  • Spiny plant (numerous spikes on the leaves and wood, ideal for creating a defensive hedge while enjoying the pepper.)
  • Grows under all types of soil.
  • Very popular in gourmet cuisine.
